Mr. Wheaton is a native of Roanoke, Virginia and a1989 graduate of Hampton University, Hampton, Virginia, where he obtained his B.A. degree in Political Science. He is also a 1992 graduate of the West Virginia University College of Law. Mr. Wheaton practiced constitutional and civil rights law for over twelve years, ten of which was in private practice. The primary focus of his law practice was federal discrimination litigation.

In 2008, Mr. Wheaton founded JBT Media Holdings, Inc. to train and consult with Triangle area businesses, business owners and employees on issues of diversity, multiculturalism and sexual harassment. The focus of the training seminars is on the basics of diversity and sexual harassment, business survival in a global community, workplace diversity, community building, litigation avoidance and risk management. The consulting aspect of JBT Media affords businesses the tools with which they can develop meaningful and sustainable diversity, anti-discrimination and anti-sexual harassment policies.

JBT Media Holdings' media arm, "Triangle Diversity Magazine", due out later in 2009, will be a bi-monthly publication on issues of diversity and culture throughout the Triangle, designed to educate the public about each other and themselves. Future company projects include "Triangle Diversity Magazine" on-line, radio and television programs focusing on diversity and multiculturalism, along with sponsorship of community-wide diversity forums and festivals.
